decompress

Rebooting not by design

May 1, 2009 by Shelli

One way to clear your desk for the day is to have your hard drive crash. Don’t I wish. That it would clear my desk, that is.

Of course this sounds good but the reality is that your life becomes more stressful because it means lost time – and data.

Every time this has ever happened, it’s nothing short of torture for me. I’d rather have four back-to-back root canals, four days in a row.

Yeah, you guessed it. My hard drive crashed.

Today, the folks at TechRestore say the data is probably not recoverable.

I did find a company with a “clean room” willing to try and save the data, and probably can, but the cost will be (gulp) $900-$2,500. Ouch. What kind of choice does that leave me? Data for $900-2,500 or no data. Jeesh.

BTW, through all this, I also discovered that one way to decrease the amount of email you get is to get a new email address. It’s wonderful to have only a handful of emails in a day. Reminds me of 1996.

If anyone out there has any great insights for me on how I can retrieve my data on my hard drive without breaking the bank, I would love to hear it. You can reach me at yellowstoneshel@gmail.com.

Thanks for listening.

About Shelli

Hi. My name is Shelli Johnson. I live on the frontier in Lander, Wyoming. I’m a wife, a mother, an entrepreneur, certified life/leadership coach, wellness coach, keynote presenter and inspired speaker, leadership development facilitator, personal development strategist, writer and adventure guide. This blog mostly includes stories about adventures and travel, but other passions are reading/books, technology, fitness, nutrition, and national parks, so you’ll find a wide range of articles here. I am founder of Yellowstone Journal and YellowstonePark.com, and NationalParkTrips.com, which was my first business. My current company, Epic Life Inc., is in its 7th year, and going gangbusters. If you’re interested in learning more about my current work, I hope you’ll jump over there and learn more about that. I have a more personal blog, more directly related to life and living and leadership, at YourEpicLife.com/blog. I’d love it if you’d also check out that collection of my writings. Thank you for stopping by! Finally, if you’d like to connect with me directly, please email me if you’d like to connect.
