I Did 19 Pull-ups — Just 1 Short of My Goal

February 16, 2010 by Shelli

This is POST 22 of my “fitness journey.” For backstory, see Post 1,

If you’ve been following my fitness blogging, you’ll recall one of my goals is to be able to do 20 pull-ups.

I tested this morning at Elemental Gym, and did 19. I’m excited. To be honest, I’m ecstatic! However, what this means, and I’m sure my coach/trainer, Steve Bechtel, will agree, is that I’ve got more work to do. Not quite there yet.

I’m also preparing for a 25k skate ski race in West Yellowstone coming up on March 6, and am registered for the Tahoe 50k Trail Run in July, so I have plenty of reasons to keep up the fitness, in addition to getting that 20th pull-up!

The photo with this post was taken by Mei Ratz, of Lander, during one of my recent training sessions. Mei is a phenomenal photographer and I encourage you to check out her site!

Elemental Gym has a fantastic gym, some terrific programs and classes that will help you achieve better fitness. And, I might add, some great personal trainers: Steve Bechtel, Ellen Bechtel, Jagoe Reid, Sophie Mosemann and Lee Brown.

What I Ate to Lose 26 Pounds in 8 Months

The changes I made to my diet have been a significant factor in my loss of 26 pounds and 13.5% body fat in the last eight and a half months. It was probably the hardest part of my fitness and weight loss program, and yet the one that really helped me get fat and weight off quickly.

Here is a video blog that takes you into my home and kitchen and shows you what foods I eat in a typical day, the amounts and when I eat them. (Be warned, this could be called the “Un Rachel Ray Show” or the “Non Martha Stewart Show.” LOL)

Fitness Journey: What High Intensity Means

December 13, 2009 by Shelli

This is POST 16 of my “fitness journey” blogging. For backstory, see Post 1,

Part of the reason I’ve been able to lose so much weight and fat in just 8.5 months is because the training and exercise I do is mostly high intensity. After hiring Steve Bechtel, of Elemental Gym, as my personal trainer and coach last March, just about all the workouts I do are at a high intensity.

In this short video blog, I explain what I mean by high intensity:

Dedicated? You Bet My Freezing Butt I Am

December 9, 2009 by Shelli

Photo says it all.

I suppose many of you think I’m dedicated to fitness because I go to the gym at 4:15 am three days a week, well before most people are even stirring in bed. There’s a good chance that I’m home and showered before most people’s alarm clocks go off. All I can say to all of you still in bed is (a resentful) Good for You.

On mornings like today’s, however, I am envious and probably more apt to claim I could be a little off kilter. Nuts, even.

You see, it was –21 degrees in Lander, WY, as I got up and drove to Elemental Gym.

If before you weren’t certain I was nuts, this should solidify it. : >

This is My First Video Blog: How I Lost 24 Pounds and 12.5% Body Fat

In my last post, you’ll recall I told you how I fell off my good nutrition wagon and snarfed 12 small candy bars on Halloween. That was a rare incident. For most of the last eight months I’ve remained committed to eating only healthy foods. I promised to share some of my tricks for fighting off cravings for junk food. After providing a recap about my current fitness regimen in this clip, I share what helps me win the battle over cravings.

This is my first “video blog,” so please be kind. I realize I probably write posts that are too long. So I’ll give you a video this time. Thanks for following my fitness journey.
